Well, then, my profiletastic friend, you're in luck!

One of the most useful tools on your My Page is the understatedly named Text Box (push it to the top of your profile to make it an effective intro). Sure, you could just put text in there — if you're not the sort of person who enjoys superawesomeness — but you've got a lot more options.

You can:

* Embed a widget from another site — like a YouTube video. Just paste the embed code from the other site into your text box.

* Add photos. Click the photo link on the toolbar. You'll even get options for wrapping the text around the image, or resizing right from within the MH interface.

* Upload and link to a file. Got a PDF you want to share? A PowerPoint file? Hit the small icon that looks like a blank page (next to the photos icon), and you can upload just about anything.
Turn your blog into a portfolio with tags tag:mediahookup.com,2010-03-27:5403302:Topic:320 2010-03-27T16:35:28.000Z Louis C. Hochman http://mediahookup.com/profile/LouisCHochman It's pretty straightforward to see that the MH blog can be used to show off your written work. With the functions on the toolbar at the top, it can also be used for photos, and you can attach just about any type of file you've got handy by hitting the icon that looks like a blank page (between the photo and link icons).

But what's less obvious is how to keep things organized so that visitors can find your work. Tags are the answer.…

It's pretty straightforward to see that the MH blog can be used to show off your written work. I tag them as newslch and opinionlch. If I've got a piece I want to give more than one tag, I use commas to separate them: "newslch, opinionlch."

When you're on your My Blog page, you'll see a list of the tags you've been using in the bottom-right. Hit one, and you'll bring up any post tagged that way.

That only does you so much good — you can't expect every visitor to know to look for your tags. But you can point them there. Once you hit a tag and it brings up your results, copy the URL from the address bar of your browser. Use that link anywhere you want — like in the all-powerful text box on your profile page — to show off your work!.

Here's an example: This link shows off all my newslch posts.

And here's how I use those links on my own profile page.

Make your profile YOUR profile tag:mediahookup.com,2010-03-27:5403302:Topic:318 2010-03-27T16:17:56.000Z Louis C. That's a good start.

The platform used to create MH lays out the sections of your profile the way it's creators think most people will want them — activity is up top, with profile information and some of your media (photos, blog, etc) below. That's a good start.

The platform used to create MH lays out the sections of your profile the way it's creators think most people will want them — activity is up top, with profile information and some of your media (photos, blog, etc) below. But this is a place to show off that work, so you might want to mix things up a bit.

Media Hookup lets you drag and drop those sections — move them up and down, or even into different
columns.

Don't want a section to appear at all? Hit edit, and set the amount of items you're showing to 0. It'll become invisible to visitors, but you'll still be able to access it from your own view of your profile, in case you want to add any media later.

In my case, I pushed up the text box section to provide an introduction to my page (the part that starts with "I am Lou. Lou I am"). I find it's a good way to welcome people, and introduce prospective collaborators to my work. The text box, by the way, is a powerful tool — you can add photos, upload and link just about any kind of file, and even embed tools from other sites (like Picasa slideshows or YouTube videos).
